General Description
- Easily confused with Anabaena, "Anabaena-like"
- Short and filamentous, solitary, free-floating trichomes
- Presence of heterocysts and akinetes
- Heterocytes typically located at the terminal end of the filaments
- Color varieties include blue-green, colorless, and/ or very pale bluish-green
