Heliotheca (Bacillariophyceae)

 

Heliotheca sp. from Great Bay Estuary, New Hampshire USA;  planktonic with thin silica walls and sparse pigmentation, often ghost-like.   Structure of many discoid chloroplasts appears to be disintegrating.

 

 

Helicotheca tamesis filament with three cells.  Discoid chloroplasts are located in rows radiating from the central region with the nucleus.
