'BEST MAN' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'best man')

Considered a red peony, the relatively unknown 'Best Man' has deep red-maroon to magenta-pink, fully-double blossoms that are lightly fragrant. Their shape tends toward bomb-type with the outer petals being somewhat larger than the packed inner core. The specific coloration of this variety is highly dependent on the growing conditions and age of the plant. When fully open, the attractive yellow stamen add an additional focus. Very sturdy 32-inch stems easily support the blossoms keeping 'Best Man' a best choice for the perennial border or cutting garden. (Klehm, 1970).
