“Chatty Academy has provided a tool for staff to use to develop their understanding of the barriers children face. It has also developed staff skills and knowledge, providing alternative approaches to engage all learners. The training approach of using pre-recorded sessions has also suited our busy staff, with them being able to undertake the training at a time convenient to them”.

“As a SENCO, it has further enhanced my understanding of the ages and stages - expectations of the "Blank model’ - and how as teachers and TA’s we can support children within the normal classroom environment and with small group/1:1 work.”
Sue Wavell - SENDCo
Kirkby C of E Primary, Knowsley
I feel more knowledgeable now and feel I can support children with a stammer within the early years.”

Would your staff like to gain confidence in  knowing how to help children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)?  Would you like more help with INSET training or providing a flexible option for your staff to train when it is convenient for them?

Your staff can benefit from my knowledge as Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with over 23 years supporting children and promoting communication skills in a school environment. Alongside this, knowledge gained from supporting trainee teachers as a University Visiting Lecturer helps make workshops more focused and targeted to the specific needs of teachers and teaching assistants.

There are ten workshops, which staff can watch at a time that is convenient for them, resulting in over 10 hours of training. Each workshops helps your staff by explaining about:

  • The topic covered – what we know
  • How to identify children with such difficulties in your classroom
  • Classroom strategies to lead to better inclusivity
  • Recommendations of resources and tech

Workshops include topics such as

  • Vocabulary – a whole school approach
  • Stammering – what your school can do to help
  • Autism and Social Communication Needs
  • EAL – children with English as an Additional Language
  • Speech sounds – helping children with unclear speech
  • The BLANK model –  asking children the right questions
  • Social, emotional and Mental Health Needs
  • How Attachment Needs  can impact communication skills
  • Using Tech to support Speech, Language and Communication Needs
  • Your voice and how to look after it – for teaching staff
