Mia Amber Davis was someone that the plus size community will truly miss. Davis died at age 36 on May 10th, in Los Angeles from complications of her knee surgery. She has paved the way for many up and coming plus size models. Davis was a famous plus size supermodel and also an actress. She was a runway model and modeled for brands like Lane Bryant, Just My Size, Ashley Stewart and Monif C. Davis was the face for Monif C, CNN guest commentator for size diversity, Plus Model Magazine Creative Editor, and just this April she was named this year’s Plus Model of the Year for Full Figured Fashion Week.

Cherina Tidwell had the opportunity to meet Mia Amber Davis in 2009 at Full Figured fashion Week. Tidwell’s pluz-sized modeling company Full Figured Creations had the opportunity to go to several other events that Davis participated in such as Full Figured Fashion week and the Fuller Woman Expo in Detroit.

“I first met Mia at FFFweek 2009 and when I met her my thoughts were “if that’s what I have to look like or compare myself with I will never be a model”, but after hearing her speak about following your dreams, she inspired me to keep pushing for my goals. When I found out she passed my mouth dropped open, my heart felt really heavy and I had to take a deep breath. When I realized it was real, I cried, prayed, and thought about our last conversation. The last time I saw her was at the Fuller Woman Expo in Detroit 2010 and I asked her about being a guest on Heart to Heart. Mia said, “Sure, actually I’ll be in the Richmond area so maybe we can get together”. Then she gave me her email and I followed up with her about it her response was….

” Hi Cherina,
Thank you so much! I will not be traveling to Virginia this weekend as hoped becasue I booked work here at home.
If my trip gets rescheduled I will let you know.

Have a fab week,
Mia

This will forever be something that Cherina Tidwell will always remember because she never got a chance to be on Tidwell’s show, Heart to Heart.

Mia was the one who made me first take notice and appreciate the sexy and real beauty of plus-sized (real) women. God bless Mia, her memory and how she represented herself in public life.
