Nigerian superstar, King Perry has released his anticipated EP 'Continental Playtlist.'
This is a seven-song EP that affirms his ability to turn on a dime, going wherever inspiration and life leads.
Speaking to Kalondu Musyimi about the inspiration for the EP, Perry said;
"Continental playlist' just as the name implies is a carefully curated playlist of songs from the Continental boy, myself, for my fans. The EP's title celebrates the "Continental Sound" as I like to call it."
He added;
"The project pulls from Afrobeats, Amapiano, dancehall/reggae and more to create an eclectic, layered sound that defies simple genre tags. My originality is Afro-dancehall and over the years I have shown that I can fuse my sound with any other genre and make magic, so it felt like the right time to make this project. "
"I plan on continuing the playlist, so there will be other Volumes as time goes."
The singer has collaborated with Victony, Ria Sean, 1da Banton, and Tekno.
"I wanted to work with artists I had synergy with, other new school pioneers of afrobeats. I am a fan of each featured artiste on the project so it was easy to connect on the tracks."
He says the track 'Tight Condition' was one of the most challenging ones to produce.
"We kept changing and trying out new elements. For instance, we had 2 0r 3 different saxophonists play on the record before we finally got what we wanted and a couple of other things."
"Turkey Nla too was kind of challenging because if you listen carefully you will notice it is a blend of Amapiano and Makosa, so getting that to work was an interesting process."
The singer said the feedback to the EP has been amazing since its release "just like I expected. I have been getting a lot of "we have missed this King Perryy" and "finally he gave us a project". The listeners/fans felt my originality through this project and they are still feeling it. I love feedback like that."
