Cassava – Manteiga

$13.00

(Please be advised that the best time for cassava planting in most of Florida is springtime. These offerings are for people to get access to the germplasm which they can grow out to use for future plantings or to overwinter in the ground for later harvests.)

Manteiga is a yellow-fleshed Brazilian cassava variety.  Manteiga translates to butter in Portugese.  This variety carries the same distinctive potato aroma and flavor of Shan’s Yellow but cooks up with a more intense yellow color.  This variety is very soft and cooks quickly.  The roots are starchy and delicious.  This is a highly recommended variety that may change the opinion of the cassava skeptic.  We are still evaluating and learning about production but so far it has done well.  A true gem from Brazil that has a promising future in Florida.

In central and north Florida, cassava typically needs to be planted by April to get a good yield within that growing season.  Cuttings ordered out of that season can be grown out by the customer to yield more planting material for future plantings.  Manihot esculenta.
