Summary[edit]

Description Introduced, warm-season,hairless, spreading annual herb to 40 cm tall. Leaves are alternate, long-petiolate, ovate to lanceolate and to 15 cm long. Flowerheads are terminal and spicate. Bracts are green and usually to 1 mm long. Perianth segments 3, usually green and 1.5–2 mm long. Fruit are brown, wrinkled and about as long as perianth. Flowering from late spring to early autumn. A native of tropical regions of the world, it is a weed of closely settled areas.
