boundary of the perinseum. It arises by tendinousand fleshy fibres from the inner surface of the tuberosity of the ischium, behindthe crus penis ; from the surface of the crus ; and from the acPjacent portion of theramus of the ischium. From these points fleshy fibres succeed, which end in anaponeurosis which is inserted into the sides and under surface of the crus penis. Nerve-supply.—The perineal branch of the internal pudic. Actions.—It compresses the crus penis, and retards the return of the bloodthrough the veins, and thus serves to maintain the organ erect. Between the muscles just examined a triangular space exists, boundedinternally by the Accelerator urinae, externally by the Erector penis, and behindby the Transversus perinaei. The floor of this space is formed by the triangularligament of the urethra (deep perineal fascia), and running from behind forwards Fig. ;^^7.—-Triangular ligament or deep perineal, fascia. The triangular ligament (Deep perineal fascia) is stretched across the pubicarch, so as to close in the front part of the outlet of the pelvis. It consists oftwo dense membranous laminae, which are united along their posterior borders, but are separated in front by intervening structures. The superficial of thesetwo layers, the inferior layer of the triangular ligament, is triangular in shape, about an inch and a half in depth, attached above, by its apex, to the undersurface of the symphysis pubis and subpubic ligament; and on each side to therami of the ischium and os pubis, beneath the crura penis.
