English: Hill of Standing Stones - looking along old drove road. The summit cairn of the Hill of Standing Stones is shown here; see also the main item: 992573.
Behind it is the view WSW towards the woods. Just left of centre, in the background, is the point where a footpath leaves the woods; that path leads to this summit cairn, and beyond. However, this is only part of a much longer drove road, only traces of which now remain. That drove road began in Bonhill, near a disused quarry (at a point only about 200 metres west of some modern marker stones: 1009677); it then continued uphill along the route shown in 1009723. The drove road then passed close to Pappert Well (1009877), continuing from there along a route that is now obscured by trees; the route continued along the course shown in the photo, to the summit of the Hill of Standing Stones, from which point the photo was taken; further on, it crossed the Gallangad Burn at the Common Ford (1402259).
