Introduction
In Retail, it is very common that articles will be reclassified under different merchandise category based on the need of business. Some of the reasons may be due to growth of the product business volume, moving the product under correct merchandise category.
Business Scenario:
Article R100001-Fauna Margarine is created under merchandise category R1111-Dairy.The category manager decided to classify the product under R1113-frozen products Merchandise category as there is a different category manager taking care of frozen product’s as the frozen products category itself is growing big.
Article reclassification:
General Reasons for article reclassification:
1. Article might have assigned to wrong merchandise category.
2. Article which needs more focus can be classified under one merchandise category.
3. Increased business volume of existing merchandise category and business want to split to manage it in a better way.
Following are the some of the checks carried out during reclassification.
1. Characteristics defined in the source MC are available in target MC or not.
2. Characteristic values defined against character at source MC should present in target MC.
We will check the article master data for Article R100001-Fauna Margarine.
Article R100001 was grouped under merchandise category and we want to re classify it under R1113-Frozen foods.
We can reclassify the article by running WRCR transaction code:
Reclassification screen will have the option of test run to check any conflicts or data gaps, options to change purchase order items, allocation table items and new listing conditions.
During test run, System checks above general information and gives message whether the reclassification can be carried out successfully or not.
We can complete the process of reclassification by executing without test run option.
Now we will check the merchandise category of article from MM43.
We can see the article was classified under R1113-Frozen products.
Note:
Article reclassification will not change historical data in information systems and purchase and purchase order items.
Conclusion:
During article reclassification, please discuss the pro and cons with respective team in charge and explain the issues related to historic data.
