SAP Archiving and SAP Analytics Cloud - Working Together, Hand in Hand

It's a summer of archiving for me - I am not an expert, but I am learning a great deal.

Looking at our S/4HANA readiness checks and the Early Watch reports, our change documents table is in the top 10.  But when you go to analyze it using the TAANA (table analysis) transaction, where should you start with archiving?



In our sandbox, it looks like the above.  Should we start with archiving with business partner change documents?  Installation change documents?  Security (PFCG) change documents?  Before doing anything, I recommend reviewing the official SAP Data Management Guide  - there is a more recent version, 7.1 but I can't seem to locate the online link.

 

At first I thought I would export the above to Google Sheets, but then to do that I found a 41 page "cookbook" and decided not to do it.  So I exported to Excel, and read it into SAP Analytics Cloud.

Interesting that the ORDER object generates unexpected values for change documents.  Honestly it was a surprise to me as well, as I was expecting our IS-U (Utilities) objects to have the most change documents, even for a sandbox.



In our sandbox, the order object has the most change documents, followed by PFCG.



If I add smart insights, it adds the text "number of entries for ORDER is 103% above average" driven significantly by the year 2010.



So then I try "search to insight"



 



In 2014 a lot of change documents were generated, as shown above.

While I won't follow this solely as an archiving strategy, I am sure you have similar results in your Early Watch reports under the "Data Volume" management section.
