ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell athletics community and the Big Red Track and Field programs mourn the loss of legendary former head coach John F. (Jack) Warner. Warner passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital at the age of 93.

Warner coached the Big Red men's (1967-90) and women's (1982-90) teams, as well as three Olympians, 18 All-Americans and 91 Heptagonal champions.He was inducted into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994 after compiling a 23-year overall record for all sports of 276-151-4. His men's teams won four Heps titles and had five second-place finishes. Warner was named the NCAA District II Men's Track Coach of the Year in 1978 and was NCAA District II Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1983.

His many awards and accolades included: Rome (N.Y.) Sports Hall of Fame; Syracuse Letter Winner of Distinction; Niagara District USA Track and Field Hall of Fame; US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

He is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth; his children Jack Warner, Jr (Carol) of Lafayette, Ind.; David Warner of Ocala, Fla.; Susan Radloff of Largo, Fla.; Karen Tripp (Jeff) of Brevard, N.C.; and Joe Warner of Ithaca, N.Y.; also by stepsons Hugh, Paul, Kurt, and Lew Willig. He is predeceased by his son, Tim Warner, brother, Dick, parents, Marie and Addison.
