Thoughtless Acts

Description:
In an everyday scenario, we seem to do a lot of things unconsciously in an environment not particularly designed for it. The aim of this assignment is to notice and discuss such acts and give a possible design solution to them.

Thoughtless Act 1: Using seats/chairs as leg-rest
How often do you find people resting their legs on the seat in front of them in lectures? Sitting for extended periods of time in lecture halls, or even long-haul flights is tiring. One feels like stretching their legs. You often find people resting their knees on the seat in front of them. It is such a common act, yet usually goes un-noticed.
Seats as Leg-Rest

The best solution for this is to simply give enough leg room that people could stretch. But that is not the most sensible solution as then it reduces the seating capacity by quite a lot. My solution is that we add something like a footrest at the back of the chairs/seats so that people could use that to elevate their foot. The foot rest in my opinion should be a 'pull out'(like a flap) that goes back into the chair when not used(could use springs). It should be at a comfortable height, enough to feel a difference from the normal sitting position(at a height that simulates the thoughtless act). This way, it would be more convenient for people as they wouldn't have to slide down on their chair to reach the chair in front.

Thoughtless Act 2: Piling up clothes on you personal study chair
Whenever I am short on time, I usually just throw my unused jacket/clothes on the back rest of the chair instead of putting it back inside the closet. This quite a common act, specially with guys(too lazy)! The problem is that the room looks untidy and you usually end up sitting on your clothes as they are all over the chair.

A possible design solution to this 'untidiness' is to have a chair that has the added functionality of a 'hanger'. Below is a creative design choice.

What I think would be good is to have the normal chair you use, but behind the back-rest, have an extension(rod) on which you could hang all the clothes you are too lazy to fold back and keep. This way, you keep your room tidy (enough), and your chair still looks like a usable chair.
