Let me say right off the bat, the helmet was awesome (the details of how we made it are in another post). The costume itself LOOKED great, but…we did not really think things through as far as practicality. So, if anyone decides to make something similar, I would suggest foam or cushioning the edges somehow. Anyway, we decided to make the costume out of cardboard and paper mache’. The goal was to make it hard like real armor. We DID achieve that goal, but that is what ultimately made it too uncomfortable to wear. We started with some Pintrest research. I got a general idea of the shape for all of the pieces, but I was not able to download any templates, so I just freehanded them. There was a lot time spent on fitting the pieces to her and re-sizing them.

After all the pieces seemed like they a good fit, we hot glued the round pieces (arms and legs) and then went on to paper mache’. Since there were so many pieces I decided to show the girls how to do this, and they were such a big help. They did a fantastic job.

After it all dried, I spray painted it all with a glossy white. Once that dried, we did some more trying on. I had to redo the middle part because it wasn’t curved right (that is why it isn’t painted in the picture below).

I added the details to the middle piece and the knees. Then I used Velcro to connect the front and back body pieces. It looked really cool, but in the end it was too uncomfortable and even though it was shaped so she could still move, it just didn’t work. We did have a really cool photoshoot with all of our costumes on, so that was fun. Here is the final result.
