Substrate: siliceous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling S. regularis, but with a grey to brownish-grey thallus and prominent to sessile apothecia with black-brown discs and narrow-ellipsoid ascospores; its taxonomic value is in need of re-evaluation; on old roof tiles, so far only known from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
