Description

Steel gray, metallic lustrous rare Tiemannite from the type locality, the St. Lorenz Mine near Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the Harz. A rare classic specimen in very good condition, extremely hard to get hold of nowadays.

Named after W. Tiemann (?-?), „Hütteneleve auf der Zorge“, who had found the mineral in 1828. Note, however, that J.K.L. Zincken already mentions "Quecksilberselen" in 1825. (mindat)
