“It’s a Duesy” was once a common expression

Frederick and August Duesenberg were two German-Americans whose last name was quite famous in the 20’s and 30’s…….”It’s a Duesy” was once a common expression in the previous century, meaning “it’s really something special”, something great and wonderful like a well engineered work of art…in other words like a 1920’s or 30’s Duesenberg automobile.

In 1913, brothers Frederick and August Duesenberg founded Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company in Des Moines, Iowa. Born in 1876 and 1879 respectively in Kirchheide, Germany, the two brothers were self-taught engineers and built many experimental cars. Duesenberg cars were considered some of the very best cars of the time, built entirely by hand and of course very expensive

This is the factory showroom, restored to it’s original condition, for Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg cars during the 1930’s. It is now the The Auburn, Indiana Automobile Museum.
A 1935 Duesenberg SSJ 563 Roadster sold at a Gooding & Company auction in 2018 for $22 million. That makes it the most expensive American car ever sold at auction…”a real Duesy”
