Common name: Alder Leaved Cat Tail • Telugu: Chiru kuppinta, Mirapa kuppinta
 

Shrubs, branchlets densely hispid. Leaves 2-2.5 x 1.5-2 cm, ovate, apex acute, base cuneate, margin crenate to serrate. Male flowers in axillary cylindric spike to 8 cm, anthers vermiculiform, sessile; female spike to 1.5 cm, upper axillary, bracts cupular, dentate, enclosing the ovary, ovary ca 2 mm across, tomentose, styles 3, to 7 mm with filiform bases.

Flowering and fruiting: October-March
Moist deciduous forests, also in the plains
Peninsular India (Endemic)

Identification of Plant from Euphorbiaceae : 2 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (3)
Pl. help me to identify the specimen attached.
It is small herb of about half-foot, spreading side-wards.
Leaves broadly ovate with blunt tip, mid-rib prominent, margin crenate, stellate hairs present all over the plant 

Recorded at Vellore on 12-10-14
It looks like Acalypha capitata.


This resembles Acalypha alnifolia, an endemic species, called Sirukurunjan in Tamil.
