Cajun Fried Okra

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp hot sauce
  • 1½ lb okra, cut into ½-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Pour oil into a large saucepan to a depth of 2 inches; heat over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 350°F.
  2. Place 1 cup flour in a shallow bowl. Stir together 1 cup flour, cornmeal, and Cajun seasoning in a separate shallow bowl.
  3. Whisk together buttermilk and hot sauce in a third shallow bowl.
  4. Dredge okra in flour to coat, shaking off excess.
  5. Dip in buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in cornmeal mixture, coating well.
  6. Fry okra, in batches, 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
