Proactive means creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened. (Krista Hillis,2014) In other words, proactive can be interpreted to take actions before something happens. Proactive is an important skill to entrepreneurs.

A proactive entrepreneur is aware of a change, quickly thinking and do something action. They create their own environment, future and fate of business. It has an example entrepreneur who is really proactive, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun. He is one of the famous entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun was born in February, 1952 at Batu Pahat, Johor. He graduated from an English secondary school. Secretary of bank was his first job. Before he started to his current business, he has been started up business in trade, silver car industry, insurance agent, housing development and so on. He is the 20’ richest net worth and founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad. He started purchase a large of company until the Berjaya Corporation Berhad be a diversified entity engaged in core businesses such as direct selling, financial services, hotels, resorts, environmental services, clean technology investment; motor trading, food and beverage, education and so on.

Proactive let him strived to find out opportunity to develop his businesses. Finally, branch of Berjaya started to appear at Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, England, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico and others country. One of the achievements is he is proactive in bringing in brand of McDonald to Malaysia. He wrote to McDonald’s headquarters, patent application operating in Malaysia after he read the magazine “Times” article which tell the story of US fast food chain McDonald’s. He send them some news report and article about fast food business, economic and information about Malaysia every week. Finally, he successful made the first McDonald’s franchise in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and holds a 51% stake when he 29 years old.

On the other hands, he also actively explored a number of businesses in Vietnam. Berjaya had several lands in Vietnam to develop his plans. He said Berjaya in Vietnam have five development value of nearly 12 billion of large industrial development plans.  He plans to sell more assets and bonds to finance Vietnam plan.
