"Servant" actress Nell Tiger Free stars in the latest installment of the franchise that began with 1976's "The Omen."

Get ready to say a prayer or two, because the birth of evil is upon us.

20th Century Studios has unveiled the chilling first trailer for The First Omen, the supernatural thriller serving as a prequel to the 1976 horror classic The Omen.

Hitting theaters in April, The First Omen follows a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) who's sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church. Once there, however, she encounters a darkness so absolute that it shakes her faith and leads her toward a sinister conspiracy.

As horror fans are well aware, the original Omen from director Richard Donner starred Gregory Peck as an American ambassador who replaces his stillborn child with a newborn orphan at the behest of a priest. Unfortunately that kid, Damien, turns out to be the Antichrist.

While Damien isn't yet around to shove innocents off of balconies, something eerie is certainly afoot in our first extended look at his origins.

In addition to Free, who's known for her work on the creepy Apple TV+ series Servant, The First Omen stars Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy. Arkasha Stevenson directs, from a script she wrote with Ben Jacoby, Tim Smith, and Keith Thomas.

The Omen previously spawned three big-screen sequels, a 2006 remake, a failed TV pilot, and the one-season A&E series Damien. It's just the latest classic horror property to be revisited, following in the footsteps of the new Halloween trilogy and The Exorcist: Believer.

The First Omen hits theaters April 5, 2024. Watch the trailer above.
