Tell more (Swedish: Berätta mera)

Summary

We all carry a story. We have different backgrounds but we share a common likeness in life itself.

“Tell more” is a series of live meetings and stories that turn strangers into friends. The narrator share his or her life experiences.

The City of Gothenburg’s development centre Senior Gothenburg started the series in co-operation with authorities and the voluntary sector. Since 2012 the program has had stories from seniors living in Gothenburg and with a past in many different countries around world, as for instance Gambia, Finland, Poland, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Macedonia, Bosnia, Portugal, Somalia, Ghana, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, Turkey, Serbia, Argentina, Greece, Hungary among others.

The series have also had different subjects like for instance women’s day when three women from three different countries told their stories. Romany histories and love has been other subjects as well as strangers meetings where friends from different backgrounds have told stories about who they are, how it was when they met and what happened later on.

One association is host and chooses the persons that are going to tell their story, arrange a mini-exhibition with crafts, photographs, sculptures and art. Each program includes folk music and dance. The association offer some delicacies from home at the end of the activity for some mingling and making new friends.

Tell more is held at a selected cultural institution, in this case the City Museum since stories is an integral part of the society. The series has grown in popularity so the city district committees also want to showcase it locally to reach out to older persons that are not able to come to the City Museum. Finish stories has been touring to city district committees during this year and will continue its tour during 2017.
