Several posts on social media are claiming that Ratan Tata has presented a bullet and bombproof bus to the Indian army. A photo of the alleged bus accompanies these posts. Let’s fact-check this claim through the article.

Claim: The viral photo shows a bullet and bomb-proof bus, which was presented to the Indian army by Ratan Tata recently.

Fact: The viral photo shows an armoured bus manufactured by Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI). This was presented to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 7 September 2017. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of this claim, we performed a reverse image search on the viral photo cropped to the portion of the bus. We also included appropriate keywords in this search, revealing that this is an armoured bus presented to the CRPF by MIDHANI in 2017 and not a recent bus presented to the Army by Ratan Tata. There are no news reports to substantiate the viral claim.

Reportedly, on 7 September 2017, an armoured bus along with Bhabha Kavach and a lightweight BP jacket manufactured by MIDHANI was handed over to the CRPF (here and here). The viral photo was posted on the official X handle of the CRPF on 7 September 2017. Nowhere in these reports or the posts by the CRPF was it mentioned that Ratan Tata presented the buses.

To sum up, Ratan Tata has not recently presented bulletproof and bomb-proof buses to the Army.
