Almost 20 years after his debut as Green Goblin, Willem Dafoe returned to his Goblin Glider for Spider-Man: No Way Home – and things were a little different this time around.

Dafoe returned as the notorious Spider-Man villain alongside Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx's Electro for No Way Home, and with the new trilogy came a slightly tweaked iteration of his iconic character.

Following No Way Home's release, and impressive reception, Dafoe admitted to The New York Times that one aspect of Green Goblin's costume had been "changed up a little bit" for the new movie.

"I must be honest, I am aware that there was some criticism of that [Green Goblin] mask in the original one," the actor explained. "We heard it enough that it was probably a consideration, to change it up a little bit."

Any changes to the mask had no real impact on Dafoe's performance, however.

Offering insight into his approach to bringing Norman Osborn's evil alter-ego to life, the actor added: "I don't think about that because I don't think about emoting with my face.

"My face follows my heart. It's just an expression of what you're feeling."

Speaking of Spider-Man villains, screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers recently revealed that they toyed with the idea of featuring Marvel Comics' Kraven the Hunter as the movie's Big Bad, when discussions between Disney and Sony were still underway.

"We were taking meetings about it, and going, 'Well, what would this movie be if it wasn't in the MCU?'" McKenna recalled.

"It was like any time you have a limitation thrown on you, then it creates possibilities and spurs all sorts of creative discussions," Sommers added.

"Fortunately, they came to their agreement before we were too far down any road, and we were able to jump right in with the old team."
