Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blue-grey above, silvery-white below; dark blotches between soft dorsal-fin rays. Second dorsal-fin ray tip and caudal-fin upper lobe yellowish; all other fins pale to dusky.

Size:

Up to 59 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coastal waters, from the surface to 15 m depth.

Biology:

Likely feeds on small fishes and crustaceans. Occur singly or in small or large schools swimming frequently along reef drop offs.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly by hook-and-line and bottom trawl.
