Appearance:

It typically grows to a height of 20-40 meters (65-130 feet) tall, though exceptionally large specimens can reach up to 60 meters (197 feet).

The tree has a conical to columnar shape with a straight trunk and dense foliage.

The bark is dark brown to grayish-brown and becomes fissured and furrowed with age.

The foliage consists of scale-like leaves that are arranged in opposite pairs or whorls of three. The leaves are dark green above and have a glaucous (bluish-white) underside, giving the tree a distinctive appearance.

Cones:

Cupressus torulosa produces small, spherical cones that are about 1-2.5 centimeters (0.4-1 inch) in diameter.

Growing Instructions for the Himalayan Cypress

The seeds have a period of dormancy. They can be planted outdoors in the fall or winter for spring germination or they can be cold stratified to simulate winter conditions and to break their dormancy at any time of the year. 1. Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours. 2. Put the seeds in a ziplock bag. 3. Put the bag in the refrigerator and leave it there for 30 days. 4. Put some soil in a pot. 5. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil. 6. Water the soil so that it is moist but not wet. 7. When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted.
