Spring Break 2024: Phymanthus crucifer, 12 March 2024

Phymanthus crucifer, the Red beaded anemone;
Monroe county, Florida (12 March 2024).
Spring Break 2024

Reading a disc-width of about 5-6 inches, the Red beaded anemone is a small, fairly abundant specie you can find along the shallow edges of the Florida Keys — as well as throughout the Caribbean Sea. They tend to prefer coral- and rock-formations. In the Keys, I often find them near channels, areas that are often strewn with quite a bit of rock formations. This species is apparently quite variable in coloration. I found and iPhone-photographed three of them in one location — two fairly light-colored, the third very, very dark.
