A co-captain of the 1995 Cal football team, defensive back Je’Rod Cherry led the Golden Bears in tackles (91) and kick returns (18) and was named to his second consecutive Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 team. A two-time Academic All-Pac-10 selection, he compiled a 3.15 GPA in education. Cherry was selected in the second round (40th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints and played nine seasons in the NFL with the Saints, Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, accumulating 110 tackles and three sacks. He played a key role on special teams with the Patriots, recording 50 special teams tackles from 2001-04. Cherry helped New England to Super Bowl titles in 2001, 2003 and 2004. After retiring from the NFL, he moved to Cleveland and became a talk show host and NFL analyst for WKNR AM 850. In 2013, following WKNR becoming a flagship station for the Cleveland Browns, Cherry also became a game-day pregame host for the Browns radio network.
