Sim skunk works macchi 205 veltro development

Dear friends,
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Air Force.
SSW would like to pay a tribute to this important milestone by developing one of the most iconic Italian fighters during the WWII the Macchi-Castoldi 205 “Veltro”.
We will therefore have to change our road map , the development of the Lockheed T33-A would be moved to 2024.
But before making a final decision we’d like to have your feedback as well.
Thank you very much

I have always thought the C. 205 Veltro was the most elegant warbird, and I would personally love to fly a SSW rendition in MSFS! The T-33 is nice and all, but you have my vote for the 205 first for sure!

I love your work so I’m excited for whatever comes next, but if I had to choose I’d go for the 205, as I’d love to see what you can do with a warbird, and the 205 was such a gorgeous one as well!

Fantastic news! Go for the 205 and never look back!

Still can’t wait for the release of the SF-260

Keep up the awesome work

hello,
In confidence I reveal that the Macchi 205 is an act of love, I was 16 years old when, already dreamed of being a pilot, I fell in love with him meeting a pilot of WWII that had flown it.

Correct me if I’m wrong but is this the plane where one wing is slightly longer than the other to counteract adverse yaw or something like that?

hello,
you’re right, left wing is 8" longer then right one to compensate with lift the engine torque (DB-605 1470 horsepower)

Would love to see this aircraft in the sim! Absolutely perfect choice. :ok_hand:

Well … while I like the Macchi 205, I think the T-33 would be a better choice:

  1. it was the trainer version of the USAAF’s first jet fighter and thus dates back to 1944 and is almost as old as the Macchi.
  2. it was the first jet fighter to use an internal engine instead of wing nacelles
  3. while we already have a multitude of WW2 warbirds for MSFS, there still is no 1st generation jet fighter (Me 262, Gloster Meteor, Volksjäger, P-80 Shooting Star) available, save some freeware conversions

I would vote for the T-33. That’s one that I’m very excited for and I would guess it has broader appeal than the 205.

Defs would be wayyy more interested in the C.205 than the T33 and it would be a nice way to commemorate the 100th anniversary))

I’ll take them both, thank you… Onwards and upwards.

Hello,
We hope to be pleased to show you the progress of the development of the Macchi 205.
To develop the engine and flight models we used a mock-up inherited from FSX that we ported to P3D v. 5 (credits due to the original developer Manele Villa).
This is because the development of the 3D model has not yet begun.
The video shows that the flight model and the engine are satisfying even if they still need a lot of work for fine tuning.
Model shows good aileron response, stability, spin resistance and an overall good maneuverability.
BTW
We want to reassure you that the development of the SIAI 260 is proceeding normally, the model and the systems are finished, now we are at the cockpit texturing phase, we count, without promising, to be able to release it by the end of May.
