BUFFALO, Mo. — About three hours south of Kansas City in Dallas County, Mo., the residents of Buffalo are cleaning up from the EF-2 tornado and mourning the loss of one of their own.

Husband Attempts to Save Wife During Tornado

A mobile home community about two miles south of Buffalo was among the hardest hit early Wednesday morning, and a woman living there died from her injuries. Thirteen people from the mobile home park were taken to the hospital.

Residents say they heard the sounds of the tornado just after midnight and braced themselves.

Vernice Cusick took cover in his cellar.

“I can’t really explain. Terror,” he said. “I just thank God that I’ve got my house. I look around me and some people were not quite as fortunate.”

Crews are working to restore power to the residents there.
