Former San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard finally spoke after the offseason deal that sent him and Danny Green to Toronto.
In a letter, Leonard thanked the Spurs, fans and Gregg Popovich for his years in San Antonio. Leonard also stated it took him a "few weeks" to figure out the right things to say.
Another former Spur, Antonio Daniels, defended the timing of the letter saying he believes Leonard did not take too long to say something while on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
Daniels said he feels saying thank you to the organization and fans must have been tough for Leonard, considering the backlash he received in his final season with the Spurs.
If you are Kawhi Leonard and you hear all of the noise that's coming out of San Antonio, and these fans and them questioning you... I'm not talking about this summer... I'm talking about last year. I'm talking about during last season.
During the year when people were questioning your character, your heart, and your commitment, I bet you it was tough for him to even say "thank you."
If you know somebody has been talking dirty about you, sometimes "thank you" is all you can come up with to say.
Because if you say what you really want to say, it's not going to come out right.
You think of how much this San Antonio fan base has laid into Kawhi Leonard ... they have laid into him.
Keep in mind this is a snippet of a 3-hour show from Antonio.
In case you have not read Leonard's letter to San Antonio, here it is:
