PIONEER ELLIOTT LADY DIES
Mrs. Elizabeth Hipwell, a long time resident of Elliott passed away at her home her last Thursday night about midnight. Mrs. Hipwell had been in poor health for the past several weeks. He died was caused by complications.
Elizabeth "Beth" Rawlings, daughter of Thomas and Mary Rawlings, was born July 3, 1857 in St. Columb, Cornwall, England and passed away at her home at Elliott, February 23, 1937, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 22 days. In October in the year of 1872, she came with her parents to Plattville, Wisconsin. In 1876 they moved from there to Montgomery County where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was united in marriage on June 24, 1880 to Edwin Hipwell, who preceded her in death September 29, 1900. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Mae Ator of Elliott, Iowa, G. J. Hipwell of Omaha, Nebraska, and Chas. Hipwel of Essex, Iowa. They made their home in Red Oak for several years later moving to Elliott, Iowa in 1892.
Mrs. Hipwell is survived by her children and four brothers, Tom and Dick Rawlings of Walbach, Nebraska and John and Will of Elliott, also 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a host of friends.
She is a charter member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Mrs. Hipwell will be remembered for her unfaltering devotion to friends, family, and Christian devotion and in her passing a long and useful life has gone to its heavily reward.
She followed during through which she gained many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 28 at the Methodist Church in Elliott with Rev. Arthur Henry in charge. Interment was made in the Elliott Cemetery.
Pall bearers were C. J. Kinney, O. R. Kirby, Ed Stennett, Dave Sandquist and John and Carl Barr. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ira Hartman, Mildred Powell, O. J. Powell, and Harlan Selby.
