Baseball … A two-year transfer, Phil starred in centerfield on the 1972 NAIA World Series team. He led the team that year in hitting with a ,345 batting average, and also was the team leader in hits (40), runs scored (39), stolen bases (25), bases on balls (27), and hit by pitch (3). He doubled and scored the lone run in the ninth inning in a Frostburg’s 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian in the World Series opener.

Phil’s two-year career statistics include a .345 batting average, 70 hits, 85 runs scored, 27 RBI’s, 4 double, one triple, 4 home runs, 58 stolen bases, 50 walks, and 8 times hit by pitch. His 46 runs scored in 1971 is tied for second place on the all-time F.S.U. list.

This left-handed hitting outfielder – second baseman, in just one inning vs. Brockport (N.Y.) State, had a lead-off double, a grand slam home run, a 2-run single, and scored 2 runs. The 3-hits, 6 RBI’s, and 7 total bases are Frostburg’s single-inning records.

NAIA All-District 18 in 1972. Two letters in two seasons.
