*Physalis philadelphica Lamarck. Tomatillo. Phen: Jun-Sep (-May); Jul-Oct (-Jun). Hab: Naturalized after cultivation. Dist: Native of Mexico and Central America.

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Taxonomy Comments: See Kartesz & Gandhi (1994) for a discussion of this group. It is the large-flowered plant (and therefore P. philadelphica in the narrow sense) that is weakly naturalized after cultivation in our area.

Synonymy: = Ar, C, FNA14, Il, Mi, NY, Pa, Tx, Sullivan (2004); = n/a – RAB; < Physalis ixocarpa Brot. ex Hornem. – F, G, Tat, misapplied; > Physalis philadelphica Lam. var. immaculata Waterf. – K1, K3, K4, NE
