Family: PhysciaceaeGenus: Rinodina
Species:
Rinodina pityrea
SUMMARY
Thallus thin, scarcely apparent, becoming covered with irregular patches of blue-green to dark blue-grey soredia. The pigment in the outer hyphae of the soredia give a K+ violet reaction in squash preparations.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecial, 0.35 to 0.45 mm diameter, thalline margin persistent, disc dark and remaining flat or becoming only very slightly convex. Ascospores are Tunicata-type having an outer layer creating a double wall. This spore type is present in only one other British species: Rinodina calcarea, which has a different morphology and ecology.
