Carol, thanks for the tour - beautiful photography. Pomponella - does very well here - it blooms later compared to some of my others roses. Extends the growing/blooming season. Finished it's first flush this week.
Planted ownroot Thrive! Copper recently aka Tequila Supreme - in Peter Kukielski's book.
Thanks for the tip about the allium. I have a few Allium Gladiator - bought them as companion plants. - very showy.

Margie - that is an absolutely stunning combination of Sheila's Perfume with the Hydrangea!

Neal - Thank You!

We have had lovely weather the last couple of days - not to hot and rain nearly every night so I haven't had to water. I got all the garden roses fertilized yesterday and it rain last night so I hope I have given them the boost they need for a good second flush. Now I can start thinking about planting the roses I potted up in spring!

Sharlene took the words right out of my mouth, Sheila's Perfume with that hydrangea! Lovey dubby I also love the color combo of the plants behind Flower Circus!

Our weather has turned hot and muggy, so I've been getting out for a few hours in the mornings to weed. The weeds have been ridiculous this year! Abundant rainfall along with my having fertilized the beds has sent them into overdrive.

The roses I gave an experimental summer pruning are bouncing back nicely with lots of new growth and basal breaks Hurray!

After spending a day in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden on June 17, my daughter and I spent the morning of June 18 visiting the Cranford Rose Garden at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Here are some of my photos.

Layout and description of the garden:

I was intrigued by the rose arbors situated all around the garden, both by their beauty and their simple construction: pairs of rusty iron pipes placed in parallel about 18 inches apart and bridged by rusty chain link fence. The effect really was lovely even though rusty pipes and chain link fence don't sound appealing:

Unfortunately, I did not capture the entire name of the rose cultivar used for the arbor; anyone know what it might be?

As was done in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden, Allium was planted throughout the roses as an insect deterrent, but here the cultivar was Millenium.

Visiting the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden and the Cranford Rose Garden were once-in-a-lifetime events for me, and I treasure the memories. The primary purposes of the trip were for personal research (first-hand seeing and smelling lots of roses all in one place) and enjoying gardens with my daughter. Omitted from the photos posted here and in my previous posting (Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden) are rose cultivars I saw in those gardens but that I already have in my garden (Dark Desire, Beverly, Wedding Bells, Savannah, Lady of Shallot, Good As Gold, Winter Sun, Sunny Sky, Polar Ice, The Poet's Wife and Olivia Rose Austin). Many of the roses featured in Peter Kukielski's excellent book, "Roses without chemicals," were growing in this garden but were also omitted from this posting.

Wonderful, Carol. The one with the half-obscured sign must be Ethel. The rest of the information fits (hybrid wichurana, 1912). We have no photos of this one, so yours could be the first.

I think the rose could be 'Silver Moon' even tho' the signage shows the name of the rose starting with the letter "E". I couldn't find a white hybrid wichiurana with a fancy name starting with the letter "E", but 'Silver Moon' is listed as growing in the garden on HMF. The thing is, 'Silver Moon' doesn't seem to have enough petals ... Sighing!

I looked at the HMF photos and found a couple where the older blooms look white, while the younger ones are light pink. Most of the roses I saw on June 17 and 18 were slightly past their peak or even more, so perhaps that is why Ethel looked white in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

We enjoy it too, immensely!

The 'Ethel' entry in our database says the blooms are light pink and white under "Extra color info," so I apparently found that information on a site other than HMF when I filled in the data back in 2011. I always looked for information on other sites as well as HMF because I found HMF data to be inaccurate in many cases, especially the bloom sizes and petal counts.

Isn't that a stunning photo! If it weren't a once-bloomer, I'd be tempted to get it, although it's a seedling of Dorothy Perkins and might be just as susceptible to powdery mildew as its parent.

Margie, what a great gift! Your photos are all gorgeous. And your garden seems lush and very productive of great blossoms. Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us.

Yes, I think it should! When it first bloomed last year, I posted this: "Here's a disappointing first bloom. When I bought Naughty Nude, it was described as a creamy pink, but I hoped it would also have some russet tan in the bloom. Instead, it has produced this sickly greenish-yellow flower. More like Creepy Cadaver than Naughty Nude."
