Film Copying

Film copying for analog photography is a process that takes sharp and high resolution digital images of films using a DSLR and a macro lens. This provides a final result which can take better advantage of giclée’s printing quality.

Image Quality

Sharper images - digitizing film with a DSLR and macro lens allows you to print pin sharp grain and texture, which is highly beneficial with low ISO films. This can also show the expansive smooth gradients or emphasize the stark gritty texture of 1600 ISO films.

The file’s sharpness you’ll get is only limited to the lens and film quality you shoot with.

Higher resolution - we offer various resolutions for film copying to fit an A1 size print at 200dpi or 500 dpi.

The increased resolution will also allow image cropping while still maintaining a high resolution image for big prints.

We currently offer film copy services for color negative, black & white, and color positive/slide films in small, medium, and large formats. Other unusual film stocks are also workable like infrared colored and monochrome infrared.

Nikon PB-4 Bellows and PS-4 Film Carrier are our equipment of choice paired with a Nikon D800 camera and a macro lens. The Nikon PB-4 rail and PS-4 film carriage are made for duplicating 135 size film. For medium and large format films, we use a copy stand setup with the Nikon camera.
