Ruby (grape variety)

There are at least three grape varieties with this name. In 2016, nine hectares of vineyards were designated in Kazakhstan for a variety called Ruby (Kym Anderson). However, it is not clear which one is meant:

Elvira x Brighton - USA

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Elvira x Brighton. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in 1890 by the botanist Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913). There are no known cultivated areas.

Caucasus x Ontario - USA

The red berry variety (also New York 11-678, NY 11-678) is an interspecific new variety between Keuka x Ontario. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1923 by Richard Wellington at Cornell University in Geneva (New York). She was a crossing partner of the new breeding Caberinta.

Vitis labrusca - USA

The red grape variety comes from the USA. It is a vine of the American species Vitis labrusca. The variety was selected by a grower named Haskell. There are no known cultivated areas.
