Field Hockey Drops Broach Foundation Match to Brown

Lions outshoot the Bears, 17-7

NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey was shutout by Brown, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Broach Foundation match at Columbia Field Hockey Complex.

The Lions (3-10, 0-5) had several scoring chances and posted a season-high 17 shots and 11 penalty corners. Columbia was unable to capitalize on Brown's five cards, including four in the second half. Brown had just three corners and committed 27 fouls.

Maya Walker recorded a career-high four shots on goal for Columbia. Mckenzie Bloom and Lindsey Yu each had a shot on frame to round out the team's six.

Brown (5-7, 1-4) netted the match's first goal six minutes into the second quarter. Katie McCallum scored on a break away after receiving a through pass from Imogen Govan.

The Bears then doubled their lead in the third quarter when Lexi Pellegrino walked into the circle and buried a shot into the cage to make it 2-0.

Columbia goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made four saves on Sunday. Wimmer was pulled with 3:25 left in the match following a green card on McCallum. The Lions were unable to get on the board and suffered their fifth straight loss.

Broach Foundation Match

At Sunday's match, the Lions supported the Broach Foundation, a 501 C 3 non-profit charitable organization for brain cancer research. You can donate to the Broach Foundation by clicking here. Please add 'CUFH' in the notes section.

This foundation is extremely important to the Columbia field hockey family as alumni Lucy Holzinger '23BC lost her father, Rick Holzinger, as well as her uncle, to brain cancer.
