Short tufted perennial grass 10-20 cm tall, hairless flowering stems 35-60 cm high. Inrolled or folded leaves to 20 cm long with rough edges and upper surface. Flowerheads a narrow spike 20 cm long, white to purplish in colour, with dense clusters of stalkless seedheads.

Biology

Perennial. Moist heavy soils on woodlands in open country, drier grasslands and gibber plains. Likes sandy loams and clay soils. Tolerates inundation.
