Will you please explain the difference between había comida and hube comida?

Coma is subjunctive present. Comiera is subjunctive imperfect (past tense). You could use coma like, es importante que coma muchas frutas. It's important to eat a lot of fruits. You could use comiera like, yo quería que comiera el ultimo pedazo de pastel. I wanted to eat the last piece of cake. One is present, the other is past. I would recommend googling Spanish subjunctive. It can be a daunting topic to learn as we don't use it as much in English but it's very important to master. It will take some time but you will get it.

Great answer! I would just add that "I wanted to eat the last piece of cake" translates to "yo quise/quería comer el ultimo pedazo de pastel" And it doesn't take subjective in Spanish... You see even we native speakers have an awful time with this. In Mexico we spend at least three years writing huge conjugation tables and it is still hard. Any way I would say that sentence with subjunctive in the closest English version would be "I recommended that he eat the last piece of cake" = "yo recomendé que comiera el último pedazo de pastel"

Don't worry it will hit you one day. 99% of the foreigners I know don't even notice the subjunctive, even after living 20+ years in Mexico.

Oh thank you for the correction. Yeah, see even after all these years, I still have a little trouble lol. I know some native speakers who just avoid using subjunctive as much as possible.

I would love to avoid it, but I hear native speakers use it constantly. I need to find a link or video that explains them well. Like when to use the subjunctives instead of their easier counterparts.
