Nicole McLaughlin and JanSport Have Your Summer Camping Nights Sorted
Enter the raffle to purchase the “Zipper Slipper,” “Director’s Chair,” “Jan-Sports Bra” and more.
New York-based designer Nicole McLaughlin — known for her upcycling of vintage and pre-used garments and for working with the likes of PUMA, Crocs, and Russell Athletic — never stops creating, and for the sustainable designer’s latest project she has teamed up with JanSport. In a six-piece, one-of-a-kind collaboration, McLaughlin takes JanSport’s iconic bags and turns them into a variety of everyday objects and garments.
Comprising the “Multi-Pack + Camp Seat,” the “Zipper Slipper,” a “Jan-Sports Bra,” “JanShorts,” the “Director’s Chair,” and finally “The Fishing Vest,” each piece was meticulously hand-made by McLaughlin sustainably and experimentally. As a result, we find a camp seat made out of the bags’ fabrics and labels, as well as an oversized backpack that features smaller pockets on it, and standouts such as the “Zipper Slipper” — quite literally, a pair of slippers formed on a chunky black sole unit with JanSport-branded zipper pockets on each foot, contrasting in color to add to the hand-made nature of the clogs.
Elsewhere, a fishing vest combines chest pockets made from JanSport bags with suede, while the sports bra is less like her PUMA pieces and is more of a vest, with bags appearing on either side.
In order to get your hands on the collaboration, head over to the dedicated website where you can enter a raffle for each piece. The raffle is just $5 USD apiece per entry, with all the proceeds being donated to the non-profit climate and environmental impact education platform Slow Factory Foundation.
