Outsidaz – The Rah Rah

Ok, so the other day I chose a track to post partially based on the fact that one of the guys in the act shared the same nationality as my wife. Today I’m posting a track from a group that all hail from the place of my wife’s birth. Newark, New Jersey is home to the whole Outsidaz crew, or at least it was at the time of this track’s release. The Outsidaz formed almost a decade before this cut was released, making their first appearance as a featured act on The Fugees multi-platinum 1996 album ‘The Score’. ‘The Rah Rah’ was the lone single taken from the Outsidaz debut album ‘Night Life’ released in 2000. I always absolutely loved this track, but I never did find anybody else who was quite as enthusiastic about it as myself. The ‘Night Life’ album was really more like an EP than an album, with only 7 tracks. None of the other tracks on the album really stood out for me. I have also listened to the crew’s follow up album ‘The Bricks’, released in 2001, and again I was kind of underwhelmed despite a couple of decent tracks (‘Rehab’ and We Be The O’s’). A couple of the crew’s members have gone on to have success as solo artists, most notably Rah Digga who became a prominent member of the Flipmode Squad. My favourite member of the Outsidaz though has always been the group’s founding member Pacewon. ‘Won released a couple of solo albums in the early part of last decade, the first of which (‘Won’, 2002) I heard and liked and the second of which (‘Telepathy’, 2004) I have yet to listen to. More recently however, Pacewon has released a couple of collaborative albums (‘The Only Color That Matters is Green’ 2008, and ‘The Only Number That Matters is Won’ 2012 ) with producer Mr Green, which are rammed full of bangers so I will have to post some examples soon.
