Tanya King

Tanya King is a successful entrepreneur and single mother. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she attended the University of Toronto, earning an Honors Bachelor’s of Science degree in Human Biology. She worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for six years, but figured out the corporate world was not for her. As she contemplated her potential role in the professional world, Tanya’s entrepreneurial instincts emerged. She took a gamble, moving away from her home country and settling in California, all the while having only $3,000 in the bank. In the time since, she has created and owned several companies, having built them from the ground up.

A tireless and ambitious soul, Tanya’s desire to create, own, and operate multiple businesses did not stop her from becoming a devoted mother, having given birth to two boys within eighteen months of each other. It was a challenge she gladly accepted, and she discovered that the necessity of balancing these weighty and oftentimes conflicting responsibilities taught her many useful new skills, most notably good time management.

More recently, Tanya King has educated herself in cryptocurrency and trades options in the stock market to provide for herself and her children. However, she is not only focused on building wealth for herself, but also for others, using the knowledge and skills she has accumulated over the years to aid other single mothers in achieving financial autonomy for their families. Tanya devotes a considerable amount of her time to mentoring other women in properly navigating the stock market, options trading, and cryptocurrency speculation because she noticed that many seemed uninformed about the huge potential benefits of participating in these forums. It is her belief that, with the application of the correct strategies, women across the world can build their own wealth, and thus gain true independence.

Outside of work, Tanya King spends her time weight training, hiking, salsa dancing, and spending time with her two sons.

Where did the idea for your career come from?

The idea for my business came from my desire to help people. It remains my motivation to this day.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

My typical day starts with waking up early and taking time to pray and meditate. I wake up before the kids to say my prayers and devotions, then work out. I follow that up with a healthy breakfast, usually a green shake. After that, I start researching and preparing for the tasks I need to do that day.

How do you bring ideas to life?

I am a big picture person, so I don’t always bring the ideas to life on my own. I come up with ideas of what I want, and then I assemble a team of people with the relevant strengths to help me put everything together. I couldn’t possibly do what I do without my wonderful teams.

What’s one trend that excites you?

The rise of cryptocurrency. It is becoming bigger and bigger and more widely accepted. I’m excited.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

I find it incredibly valuable to start my day early and have some quiet time. It’s important to have a clear mind when you’re working as an entrepreneur since so much depends on your decisions. I think the other thing I do that makes me productive is just cultivating the right organizational habits—knowing what I need to do and when I need to do it.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Life is hard. You need to give yourself a break, forgive yourself for your mistakes, and move on.

Women can have it all.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Find your passion and pursue it with all your heart. I believe everyone has a gift and a passion, and that they should find, explore, and pursue them.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Team building. Building the best team possible is the way I’ve grown each of my businesses many times over. I can create ideas and turn them into businesses, but I am not technical and do not enjoy administrative work. Having the right team with complementary strengths is crucial.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

For a long time, I tried to do everything relating to my business myself simply for the sake of maintaining sole control. I tried to oversee everything, and I failed at a few things because of that. It was only when I recognized the importance of team building and gave up some control in order to have the appropriate help that I was able to grow and really succeed as an entrepreneur.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

I would love to see someone start a YouTube channel making content that teaches women how to wisely invest and trade in cryptocurrency.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and why?

I recently spent $100 to hire a professional cleaner to clean my house. It was well worth the money. A clean space is a better space to work in. It facilitates creativity and productivity.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive?

I use the customer relationship management software Zoho. It allows me to store my contacts, as well as categorize my relationships and other important information so that I’m not constantly looking for it everywhere and I know the precise status of my contacts.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The One Thing by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan. The basic idea of the book is telling the reader in order to be the most productive, you need to focus your energy on one thing at a time. If you try to do too many things at once, none of them get done properly and you end up wasting your time. This has really helped me, as someone who tends to lose her focus quickly, to stick to one task at a time and even one business at a time and do it well.
