Trypanosoma cruzi is a common protozoan parasite, which causes Chagas disease in humans. Amongst the protozoa, the trypanosomes feed on blood and cause various organ damages in human beings.

The Trypanosoma cruzi has different stages including epimastigote (reproducing stage in vectors) and metacyclic trypomastigotes (infectious form that enters the human host through the wound, bite or through intact mucosal membranes). Inside the host body, trypomastigotes differentiate into amastigotes. The amastigotes multiply by binary fission and differentiate into trypomastigotes, and then are released into the circulation as bloodstream trypomastigotes (content source: https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/chagas/biology.html).
