In the dorsum the fur is dark brown and mottled and greyish brown on the ventrum. It is slightly smaller than the Fulvous Fruit Bat (Rousettus leschenaultii) with a thinner muzzle when compared. A claw is present only on the thumb, it does not have finger-like markings on its wings. Its wings are uniformally brown and the ears lack a pale border. There is a slight ruff in males. The tongue has a pappillae at its tip and it is protrusible.
