Habitat
The alga Characiosiphon is belong to the family Characiosiphonaceae and was abundantly growing on the Pashan lake of Pune. Pashan lake is an artificial lake near the suburb of Pashan, about 8 km from the Savitribhai Phule Pune University, India . The lake was built in the 1990s to accommodate the water requirement of the neighbourhood. The main inlet of the lake is a small rivulet (Ram Nadi), which is even controlled by the barrage located to the north of the lake. Pashan lake has a total catchment area of 40 square kilometres (15 sq mi). The lake often polluted with the Cyanobacterial Bloom and also with Ichhornia growth.
Habit
Genus Characiosiphon was established by Late Prof. M.O.P. Iyengar in 1936 from Trichirapally and he cultured it with the help of rainwater rainwater. and he described the algal thallus as simple and thallus is a macroscopic, dark green cylindrical-clavete sac. it shows the erect growth on the rocky surface.

Description
algal thallus is simple and macroscopic, dark green cylindrical-clavete sac.inside the sac are held a very large number of discrete and naked protoplasts, which are crowed near the tip of the sac. Each protoplast contains a large stellate chloroplast on the outer side and a small nucleus towards its inner side below the Chloroplast. A single pyrenoid is imbedded in the chloroplast.
