Sunny Leone recently opened up about her mother’s alcoholism, and how her decision to become an adult entertainer was a ‘trigger’. Born Karenjit Kaur Vohra to an Indian Sikh family in Canada, Sunny decided to join the adult entertainment industry against her family’s wishes. Her choice of profession didn’t sit well with her mother, who slipped into alcoholism and passed away in 2008, much before Sunny moved to India and did Bigg Boss season five.

Though she admitted that she might have triggered her mother’s alcoholism, Sunny revealed that her mother had “become an alcoholic” way before she decided to make a career in adult films. “She’s started drinking long before that. We went through a lot of crazy in our house because of this addiction. It was sad because you always want to think that your mother loves you more than alcohol but it wasn’t about that. It was that it was an addiction. It was something psychologically that needed to be repaired from the inside. It had nothing to do with me or with my brother or with my father,” Sunny said in an appearance on Mid-Day’s Sit With Hitlist series.

But she agreed the “trigger” for her mother’s alcoholism was her entry into the adult films. “So was I a trigger? Most definitely. It didn’t matter what I did, whether it was me coming home late or maybe doing something that you didn’t like, it was a trigger. And then when this happened, it was the stamp trigger,” Sunny shared.
