His stylish looks, lean physique, and dimpled cheeks made Dino Morea — also a supermodel — win many hearts when he made his Bollywood debut in 1999 with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. And things have not changed much, whether he is on the screen or the ramp. But there is more to him than what meets the eye; Dino is also passionate about fitness, fashion (of course), and pets — something his social media is peppered with. Ask him about his love for canine friends, and he says that caring for them is a “real joy” for him.

While talking about his furry friends, Dino also opened up about his career, the journey from modelling to acting, and what style and staying healthy mean to him. Read the edited excerpts below:

Q: You recently collaborated with designers Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla for a documentary; how was the experience? What kind of memories did it bring back?

Dino Morea: Collaborating with designers Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla for the documentary was a truly remarkable experience. It brought back a flood of memories from my journey. It’s particularly special for me because, back when I started my modelling career, I had the privilege of working with them. Years later, they approached me for this project, focusing on the return of the ‘supermodels’ era. They wanted to do something on the ‘return of the muse,’ celebrating the old supermodels. It has been a beautiful and nostalgic journey, reminiscing and celebrating the experiences shared with these talented designers. The entire process has been filled with great moments and meaningful reflections. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity and the chance to contribute to a project that encapsulates the essence of our journey as models.

Q: How would you describe your journey and the changes/overlaps in your career from modelling to acting?

Festive offer

Dino Morea: The transition from modelling to acting marked a significant shift in my career. While modelling introduced me to the world of fashion and creativity, acting allowed me to delve into storytelling and character portrayal. The experiences from my early modelling days have undoubtedly shaped my perspective and approach to the diverse roles I’ve taken on as an actor.

The overlap in my career lies in the enduring relationships built within the industry. Working with Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla has been a testament to these enduring connections. The documentary not only celebrates the ‘supermodels’ era but also serves as a bridge between my modelling roots and my current endeavours in the world of acting.

Q: We need to know the secret behind your physique. What does your daily fitness diet and fitness routine look like?

Morea: I’d like to emphasise that staying fit is not just about looking good; it’s a holistic approach to overall well-being. Our bodies are vessels, and taking care of them is crucial for success and happiness. Neglecting your physical health can affect not only your body but also your mind and energy levels. I believe that working out is a form of self-care, a way to invest in yourself. It’s not just about building muscles; it’s about maintaining a healthy body and mind. A strong, well-functioning body is the foundation for success in various aspects of life.

So, my fitness routine is a blend of regular workouts, a balanced diet, and adequate rest. Consistency is key. I prioritise a mix of cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and flexibility workouts. As for my diet, it is centered around nutritious, whole foods that fuel my body and support muscle recovery. Ultimately, taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally, is a non-negotiable aspect of leading a successful and fulfilling life. It’s about understanding that a healthy body is the key to a productive and vibrant existence.

Q: Your Instagram is enough proof of your love for dogs. Tell us about your pets.

Morea: I love my pets, and taking care of them is a real joy for me. It’s a lot like raising a child, you know? The basics are simple but crucial. First and foremost, it’s all about showing them love. Give them a good, warm place to live, and make sure they’re well-fed. That’s the recipe for a happy pet. Just like with kids, if they’re not feeling well, it’s essential to get them to a vet and give them the necessary care. It’s a responsibility, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. And, of course, like humans, pets need their exercise too. Dogs, especially, need their walks. Cats might not need as much, but it’s good for them too.

In fact, my passion for pets goes beyond just having them. I’ve invested in Pet Fed India and have been actively involved for many years. It’s an initiative I hold close to my heart, promoting the well-being and happiness of pets on a larger scale. So, it boils down to three things: love, a comfortable home, and good food. Add in the occasional trip to the vet and a good walk, and that’s really all there is to it. Simple, right?

Q: One gets to read a lot of stories about people abandoning their pets. What’s the piece of advice you’d like to give them?

Morea: It’s disheartening to hear about people abandoning their pets. My advice would be quite straightforward – don’t bring a pet into your life if you’re not ready to take on the responsibility. Having a pet is like having a child; it’s a long-term commitment that demands time, effort, and care. Before bringing a pet home, it’s crucial to consider the financial, emotional, and time-related aspects of pet ownership. Pets, much like children, rely on their owners for everything – from love and attention to basic needs like food and healthcare.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you find it challenging to continue caring for your pet, explore alternative options. Reach out to animal shelters or adoption agencies; they may be able to help find a suitable home for your pet. Abandonment should never be the solution. Responsible pet ownership involves planning for the long haul and being prepared for the commitment it entails.

Q: Your social media also speaks a lot about your style and experiments with new looks. What does fashion mean to you?

Morea: Fashion, to me, is a dynamic form of self-expression. It goes beyond trends and styles; it’s a way to communicate who I am and how I feel. It’s about embracing creativity and using clothing as a canvas to showcase different facets of my personality. Whether it’s trying out new looks or experimenting with styles, fashion allows me to constantly evolve and express myself in unique ways. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s a reflection of my identity and a means of staying true to my individuality.
